Sacred Slave Stories February 1-5 "My parents come over on a slave ship from Africa about twenty year 'fore I was born on 'da William Driver plantation down in Florida…" -Andrew Simms, age 80, from Born in Slavery: Slave Narratives from the Federal Writers' Project, 1936-1938.
Their voices still echo in time...ordinary people catapulted into a violent journey that forever changed the history of our world. And now, Moore Dance Project brings their true experiences to the stage with Sacred Slave Stories, a contemporary ballet inspired by historic interviews with more than 2,000 formerly enslaved African-Americans. Sacred Slave Stories unfolds as a series of living memories that reveal personal accounts of a people’s collective courage, sacrifice and resilience. Includes voiceovers of slave narratives by film actor Harry Burney with post-show dialogue with Artistic Director Dario J. Moore; appropriate for all ages. |
